Chapter 1

It had started off quite nicely actually; lovely open meadow, warm sun rays. As it approached its end however, the scene abruptly changed. I was back in my village, back in Nippur; the devastation that had happened when I was younger was clear to see. I walked through the village, something wasn’t quite right I thought, and quite rightly so. As I approached the plaza, the place where I had found my father, the scene changed again, this time to what I hadn’t seen, what had happened to him as I came down the nearby mountain. I froze in surprise, directly before me stood Eimosu, being held by the arms by another human, standing over my father as he lay held to the ground, struggling. There was something odd about Eimosu I observed, for he seemed as old as he is now, but his appearance was that of a desert-living human. I watched in silence what happened, the human holding Eimosu placing a sword in his hands, keeping it also in his own, what they did thereafter to my helpless father. After they were done, after I’d turned my sight away from the scene the place went black, the human who was Eimosu put a light pomegranate-coloured hand on my furry shoulder.
“My dear Enlil,” he spoke to me, surprising me with the fact he was speaking in English, “You just don’t understand do you? Understand why this needed to be done…”

At the feeling of cold water being thrown over me I bolted upright, my violet eyes wide and my breath rasping. From the other side of my bed I saw Enki put down the glass of water that he used to wake me, before coming over to me. He lightly stroked my grey-furred cheek as I sat up, shaking after the effect of the dream.
“Enlil,” Enki lightly whispered to me, “what happened? Are you alright?” I shook my head, knocking Enki’s hand from my cheek as I did so,
“No. The dream came back to me again.” I replied, indicating soon after that I wanted something to drink. Enki quickly refilled the glass whose contents he had used to wake me.
“You had that dream again? Fourth time in one week now is it not?” I nodded to him as I sipped at the water, “No wonder you were screaming. If you told me what this dream was about I’d try to help you.” I shrugged off the subject, finishing off the glass of water and getting up.

Normally I would not care for dreams, but this one in particular seemed so real, so vivid…it was starting to really concern me. Enki had told me a number of times the power of a dream, but I have not told even him. Although I do believe I should; with him being my guardian, the only one I really trust, highly intelligent Enki, but it just didn’t seem like the right time. Sure, the way I act doesn’t seem to portray this, but that doesn’t mean I am as cruel and hard-hearted as I seem. On the contrary, there isn’t much I even know about myself.
For once the beginning of a completely independant story. This one is specifically focused upon Enlil. I originally wrote parts of this story to explore the character I had given to him, but decided instead to turn it into a proper story, where Enlil basically finds out more about himself, about Enki, and who he truly is. Its only the first, introductory chapter, but hey, once I get more coursework out of the way I'll go write some more of it
